HEAD OF A WATER DEITY (CHALCHIUHTLICUE)
Now I was really lucky to experience this wonderful piece of art held in Aztec called Chalchiuhtlicue. Chalchiuhtlicue is the god of water, it symbolized purity of spring, river and lake water that was used to irrigate the fields, Chalchiuhtlicue means "she of the jade of skirt". The water goddess was the wife of the rain god Tlaloc. Chalchiuhtlicue presided over the fourth sun or the fourth creation of the world Chalchiuhtlicue
retaliated against Tlaloc's mistreatment of her by releasing 52 years of rain,
causing a giant flood which caused the Fourth Sun to be destroyed immediately. in the 16th century the Aztecs stared carving Chalchiuhtlicue sculptures and the sculpture was kept in the emperors building. Now I think it would be a great idea to do some research on why Chalchiuhtlicue was so important and another great one is why was Chalchiuhtlicue so against Tlaloc's mistreatment of her by releasing 52 years of rain! Chalchiuhtlicue statue has been carved out from this volcanic stone and is 3 feet tall! There is a thing called Chalchiuhtlicue festival now I was very lucky to witness this and this is what happened the Aztecs performed many rituals, usually on the mountain tops, where they sacrificed children. For the Aztec religion, the tears of children were considered good omens for abundant rain, and right before this I saw the Chalchiuhtlicue as it was displayed in nobles house
